A Faculty Member from the Department of Computer Engineering Presented Their Research at the ASCRS 2026 Annual Meeting

A faculty member from the Department of Computer Engineering at our university’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture delivered two scientific presentations at The 2026 ASCRS Annual Meeting and Subspecialty Day, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious scientific events in the field of ophthalmology worldwide. The conference was held in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, from April 10–13, 2026.

Prof. Dr. Kasım Öztoprak, a faculty member of the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, attended the conference and delivered two scientific presentations. The presentations focused on risk assessment and AI-assisted prediction of clinical outcomes in Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) surgeries.

The studies presented at the conference are as follows:

  • “The DMEK Risk and Outcome Prediction (DROP) Score: A Novel Benchmarking Model for Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty”
  • “Temporal AI Analysis of DMEK Clinical Outcomes: Phase-Dependent Prediction Using IVCM Endothelial Morphology and Clinical Data”

The presented studies introduced to the scientific community an innovative scoring model developed for preoperative risk assessment in DMEK surgeries, as well as phase-dependent AI-based prediction approaches that utilize both IVCM (In Vivo Confocal Microscopy) images and clinical data to assess postoperative clinical outcomes. These studies demonstrate the international caliber of our department’s research in the fields of artificial intelligence and medical image analysis, as well as our capacity for interdisciplinary collaboration.

As the Department of Computer Engineering, we are pleased to share our satisfaction that our faculty member successfully represented our department and university at this internationally renowned scientific event in the field of ophthalmology, and we wish to state that we will continue to support such research in the coming periods through our commitment to scientific productivity.
