Psychology is a branch of science that examines, analyses and researches the patterns of emotion, thought and behaviour in living beings from birth to death, and which has most recently branched off from philosophy. Whilst psychology studies all living beings, its primary focus is on human beings. It is a discipline that seeks to examine and investigate, in every dimension, an individual’s relationships with themselves, other people and objects. Psychology aims to consider, evaluate and research human beings—as social beings—not only in relation to their social environment but also in conjunction with their life context, and to apply the conclusions drawn to their lived experience.
When it comes to understanding the problems arising in many fields worldwide—such as politics, technology, health and the economy—the most important point of reference is the human being. The endeavour to understand human behaviour and mental processes points to the science of psychology. The fact that the science of psychology finds its place in many disciplines, both theoretically and practically, is increasing interest in psychology today.
Established in 2019 at Konya Food and Agriculture University, the Psychology undergraduate programme is a department that evaluates the human being not merely as a simple individual or solely as a social being, but as a being within their life context, and strives to apply this understanding to real-life situations. The Department of Psychology aims to contribute to the global body of knowledge by not only providing education that exceeds national and international academic standards but also by equipping students with the ability to conduct research and critically evaluate relevant studies.
The undergraduate programme in the Department of Psychology at Konya Food and Agriculture University offers a general education that progresses from theory to practice; through courses involving research, projects and social responsibility, as well as elective courses available from other departments, it provides students with the opportunity to learn by doing and experiencing, and to design a curriculum suited to their personal development through self-discovery.
Within this programme, where the language of instruction is Turkish, students are expected to acquire expertise in fields such as social psychology, cognitive psychology, experimental psychology and clinical psychology, and to gain knowledge of the various approaches within psychology. In line with this, the primary objective of the Psychology programme is to produce qualified psychology graduates who can translate theoretical knowledge of psychology into practical skills and develop their knowledge and skills through practical application.
