KONYA FOOD AND AGRICULTURE UNIVERSITY (KGTU)
It was established in Konya under the leadership of the Scientific Research, Technology, Education and Culture Foundation (BARTEK) established in 2010 by Konya Şeker A.Ş., Turkey's producing power. The founding Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and the University is Mr. Recep KONUK.
With the decision of the Board of Directors of the BARTEK Foundation; In accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey; the establishment of a university in Konya under the name of Food and Agriculture University, taking the necessary administrative and financial measures for this project and initiating the process was adopted and immediately afterwards, domestic and international "search meetings" were held with the participation of academicians, bureaucrats and senior executives from Turkey and abroad. Within the framework of the information and knowledge formed in these meetings, the necessary application was made to the Higher Education Council within the scope of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and the "Regulation on Foundation Higher Education Institutions", and the establishment of Konya Food and Agriculture University was published with the Law No. 6492 on the Amendment of the Law on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions published in the Official Gazette dated June 18, 2013 and numbered 28681.
There are 3 Faculties, 2 Institutes and 7 Application and Research Centers within our university. Undergraduate education is provided in 11 different branches, including Engineering Programs (Computer, Bioengineering, Food Engineering, Electrical-Electronics and Industrial Engineering) and Interior Architecture Department within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture; Economics and Administrative Programs (Economics, International Trade and Business Administration) and Psychology Department within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Genetics and Life Sciences Programs (Crop Production and Technologies, Molecular Biology and Genetics) within the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. The language of instruction in the Department of Interior Architecture and Psychology is Turkish, while the language of instruction in other branches is English. The Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences offers master's degrees in Computer Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, and Crop Production and Technologies, as well as a PhD in English in the Department of Biotechnology and a PhD in Turkish in the Department of Industrial Engineering. The Graduate School of Social Sciences offers master's degrees in Turkish and English in the Department of International Trade and Business Administration and a PhD in Turkish in the Department of Business Administration.
Konya Food and Agriculture University, which is the first specialized university in the field of food and agriculture in our country, has been designed as an international research university providing education in English in accordance with its new higher education mission, and in its new program-based education model, students follow a common course program in the first three semesters of their education, and from the beginning of the fourth semester, they choose the field and department they want to specialize in without any restrictions.
Rising on the shoulders of the farmers who are members of Konya Beet Planters Cooperative, the University is located in the city center of Konya, right in the middle of Konya Şeker A.Ş., a subsidiary of the same farmer cooperative, and the complex of over forty agro-industrial factories within Anadolu Birlik Holding. The enterprises within the holding, which fall within the scope of the food and agriculture field, also fulfill the function of a natural environment where our students will reinforce what they have learned in the scientific field in practice.
