Message from the Dean

Dear Students, Esteemed Academic and Administrative Colleagues, Valued Stakeholders,

I do not view a faculty as merely a collection of classrooms, laboratories, and workshops. For me, a faculty is a place where a question asked by a student out of curiosity eventually becomes a project, and that project, in turn, yields a result that benefits someone. This is where our responsibility as the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture begins.

Although our Computer Engineering and Interior Architecture departments work in different fields, they are both seeking an answer to the same question: How can we make people’s lives better? In this era when artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and concerns about sustainability are rapidly changing our lives, simply knowing one’s profession well is not enough. We want our students to question the purpose of their work, collaborate with people from other fields, and see the impact of what they create.

In education, imparting knowledge is only part of the process. What truly matters to us is the student’s ability to apply that knowledge and, over time, generate new knowledge. That is why we want what is learned in the classroom to be applied in the lab, in the design studio, during internships, and in projects conducted in collaboration with the industry. If a good idea cannot be brought to life, or if a completed project does not meet anyone’s needs, the work remains unfinished.

We view research through the same lens. The value of a study is determined not only by the journal in which it is published, but also by the knowledge it generates, the people it trains, and the contributions it makes to society. We will encourage our faculty and students to pursue the questions that intrigue them and to develop collaborative projects with other disciplines, public institutions, and the private sector.

A strong faculty is not defined by academic achievements alone. We want an environment where students feel a sense of belonging, faculty members take joy in their work, the efforts of administrative staff are recognized, and trust-based relationships are established with stakeholders.

What our students know upon graduation is important, but whether they continue to learn after graduation is perhaps even more important. Engineering and architecture education does not end with a diploma; it is the first step in a lifelong learning journey. We believe that a good engineer or architect must not only possess technical knowledge but also uphold ethical values, take responsibility, work effectively in a team, and think critically.

We do not view quality as a process confined to periodic evaluations. For us, quality is the habit of always striving for better in everything we do.

I believe that when our students’ ideas, our faculty members’ research, the experience of our administrative staff, and the contributions of our stakeholders come together, we will find the best solutions collectively. Our university’s core values—scientific focus, innovation, reliability, social responsibility, and collaboration—will guide us in this process.

I hope our alumni, public institutions, and industry representatives will stand by us in this process as well. I am always happy to hear your ideas, criticisms, and suggestions; my door is open to everyone.
