Dear Students, Esteemed Academic and Administrative Colleagues, Valued Stakeholders,
I do not view a faculty merely as a structure consisting of classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and academic work. A faculty is a vibrant ecosystem where curiosity transforms into knowledge, knowledge into production, and production into social value. As the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, our responsibility begins precisely here.
In today’s world, engineering and architecture are not merely fields that produce technical solutions to existing problems. They also entail the responsibility of having a say in how the future will take shape. In an era where technological transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainability, digitalization, and evolving social needs are reshaping our lives, we aim to educate our students not merely as professionals who know their craft, but as individuals who question why they do what they do, can integrate different disciplines, and can see the impact of the knowledge they generate.
Konya University of Food and Agriculture’s unique scientific expertise and interdisciplinary approach present a significant opportunity for our faculty. By bringing engineering and architecture together with agriculture, food, the environment, technology, and other human-centered fields, I believe we can produce work that contributes both to the needs of the region where our university is located and to the future of our country.
For this reason, our educational philosophy centers not merely on imparting knowledge, but on ensuring that students can apply that knowledge and generate new insights. We place great importance on our students applying what they learn in the classroom to real-world scenarios through laboratories, projects, internships, industry partnerships, and real-life challenges. For us, what matters is not merely that an idea is correct, but that it is feasible; not merely that a project is completed, but that it addresses a need.
The same philosophy applies to our research activities. We see the value of scientific work not only in where it is published, but also in the new knowledge it generates, the people it trains, and the societal contributions it makes. In this vein, we will encourage our faculty and students to pursue the questions that intrigue them, collaborate across disciplines, develop joint projects with the public and private sectors, and find new applications for the knowledge they generate.
I believe that the strength of our faculty cannot be measured solely by academic achievements. A strong faculty is one where students feel a sense of belonging, faculty members draw strength from creating and sharing, administrative staff feel valued, and the faculty can build relationships with external stakeholders based on mutual trust. For this reason, we view reliability, sharing, collaborative creation, and the pursuit of innovation as integral parts of our institutional culture.
For us, it is not only what our students know upon graduation that matters, but also how they will continue to learn after graduation. Because engineering and architecture education is not a destination, but the beginning of a continuously evolving professional journey. We believe that a well-trained engineer or architect must not only possess technical competence but also be a person who adheres to ethical values, is responsible, open to communication, capable of working in a team, able to think critically, and adaptable to change.
In the coming period, we will work to advance our faculty as an institution that learns alongside its students, produces knowledge with its faculty, develops in collaboration with its stakeholders, and adds value to society. We aim to embrace quality not merely as an evaluation process conducted at specific intervals, but as a habit of constantly striving to improve everything we do.
On this journey, I place my trust not in ready-made solutions, but in the solutions we will develop together. I believe that bringing together our students’ ideas, our faculty members’ research, our administrative staff’s experience, and our stakeholders’ contributions around a common goal will make our faculty stronger.
As the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, our goal is not merely to prepare people for the professions of the future; it is to prepare people who can contribute to shaping the future itself.
With this understanding, we will continue on our path by embracing scientific focus as our guide, innovation as our way of working, reliability as our fundamental principle, social responsibility as our duty, and sharing as the strength of our institutional culture.
I believe that together with our students—the most important stakeholders on this journey—our academic and administrative colleagues, our alumni, public institutions, industry representatives, and all our partners, we will build a faculty that is more productive, more collaborative, and creates greater value.
Together, we will think, create, and achieve even greater things.
Sincerely,
