Graduate Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL INFORMATION

Question: When was Konya Food and Agriculture University opened?
Answer:Konya Food and Agriculture University, the first specialized university in its field, was established in 2013 and started education in 2016.

Question: How many graduate students are studying at your university?
Answer: There are 64 students in the Institute of Natural Sciences and 45 students in the Institute of Social Sciences, totaling 110 students.

Question: Is the medium of instruction for all Master's programs in English?
Answer:No. The language of instruction of the Master's program without thesis is Turkish. We also have a Turkish Master's Program in Business Administration with Thesis.


QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLICATION

Question: Can I apply to more than one graduate program at the same time?
Answer: Except for non-thesis master's programs, application and registration to more than one graduate program cannot be made and continued at the same time.

Question: What should I do during and after completing the application?
Answer: For pre-registration procedures, you must come to the Registrar's Office in person and submit the certified copies of the documents requested from you in the announcement of the documents required for registration published on the website of our university and the Registrar's Office to the Registrar's Office. After the pre-registration procedures are carried out, "Exam Entrance Certificate" is given to the Master's student candidates by the Registrar's Office. You must keep this document with you while taking the Foreign Language Exam and Interview Exam of Konya Food and Agriculture University.

Question: How often do the applications take place?
Answer:Master's degree applications are made twice a year, in Fall and Spring semesters.

Question: Who can apply to master's programs with thesis and postgraduate doctoral programs?
Answer: Candidates who have completed their undergraduate education or are in the last semester of their undergraduate education can apply to thesis and non-thesis master's programs and postgraduate doctoral programs. Candidates who have completed their master's degree or are in the last semester of their master's degree can apply to doctoral programs.

Question: What should be my ALES score for master's and doctorate applications and postgraduate doctorate applications?
Answer: In order to apply, candidates must have obtained the ALES standard score announced by the EABD, provided that it is not below 55 standard points for master's and doctorate (not open) applications and 80 standard points for postgraduate doctorate program applications.

Question: Can Open Education Graduates Do Master's Degree?
Answer: Yes. Open education undergraduate graduates can also apply for master's programs with or without thesis.

Question: Will those who apply for non-thesis master's programs also have an interview?
Answer: It is done when the relevant Department deems necessary.

Question: Which foreign languages are valid in your institute?
Answer:Turkish and English languages are available.

Question: What is the difference between a master's degree with thesis and a master's degree without thesis?

Answer:Master's degree with thesis consists of 4 semester years. You graduate with a thesis and seminar work. The non-thesis master's degree consists of 3 semesters and is graduated only by giving courses and presenting a term project without thesis work.

Question: Is your university accepting foreign students for the 2018-2019 academic year?
Answer: Yes. Foreign students will be admitted in the 2018-2019 academic year.

Question: What are the tuition fees for Master's programs for international student admission in the 2018-2019 academic year?
Answer:Program fees are as follows.

Question: Can I participate in any graduate program as a special student?
Answer: Graduates or students of a higher education institution who want to increase their knowledge on a specific subject can be admitted as special students to graduate courses with the approval of the head of the institute department / main art department, provided that they pay the course fee determined by our university.

Question: Is there a PhD program at your university?
Answer: Yes. There is a PhD program at our university.

Question: Can I apply with international foreign language exam results (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) equivalent to YDS, ÜDS, KPDS?
Answer: In the exams conducted by national and/or international organizations, YDS: 60, e- YDS: 60, ÜDS: 60, KPDS: 60, TOEFL-IBT: 72, TOEFL-CBT: 198-199, IELTS: 4, TOEFL-PBT: 531-532 or Konya Food and Agriculture University Foreign Languages Coordination Office must have at least 60 or equivalent scores.

Question: Is there a language exam conducted by Konya Food and Agriculture University and what is the success grade?
Answer: Yes. A student who scores 60 points in the Foreign Language Exam conducted by our university is considered successful.

Question: Is there an ALES requirement for master's degree applications? What is the acceptance score for the program?
Answer: Yes. ALES is required for all master's programs with thesis. For the programs under the Graduate School of Natural Sciences, the numerical or equal weight score must be at least 55, and for the programs under the Graduate School of Social Sciences, the equal weight score must be at least 55.

Question: What is the validity period of ALES?
Answer: ALES exam results are valid for 5 years from the date of announcement.

Question: Can I apply with international exam results equivalent to ALES (such as GRE and GMAT)?
Answer: According to Article 11 of Konya Food and Agriculture University's Graduate Regulation, candidates can apply with GRE, GMAT and similar equivalent international exam score announced by the relevant EABD instead of ALES score; If the score requirement is not announced by the relevant EABD, candidates can apply with the equivalent international exam score shown against the ALES base score announced by ÜAK.

Question: Are there any ALES and language requirements for application to non-thesis master's programs?
Answer: ALES and foreign language requirements are not required for application to non-thesis master's programs.

Question: How many credits do the Graduate School of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences Master's Programs with and without thesis consist of?
Answer:Master's Degree (Thesis)
Master's Program with Thesis at least 7 courses with a total of not less than 21 credits,
Master's Degree (Without Thesis)
The Non-Thesis Master's Program consists of at least 10 courses with a total of not less than 30 credits.

Question: What is the Scientific Preparatory Program (BHP)?
Answer: The Scientific Preparatory Program is a one-year preparatory program for students graduating from different disciplines before starting their Master's or PhD studies. The relevant Department Head decides whether a student will receive scientific preparation or not.

Question: What are the principles regarding the Scientific Preparatory Program?
Answer: a) The scientific preparation program for master's degree consists of undergraduate and/or graduate courses. The credits of the graduate courses in the scientific preparation program cannot exceed one third of the total credits of the scientific preparation courses. These courses do not count towards the course load of the master's program.
b) The courses of the PhD (not yet open) scientific preparation program consist of undergraduate and/or graduate courses and do not count towards the course load of the relevant PhD program.
c) In the scientific preparation program, in addition to the scientific preparation courses, graduate courses with NI (non-program) status can also be taken with the recommendation of the relevant EABD and the decision of the relevant board of directors.

QUESTIONS ABOUT REGISTRATION and COURSE REGISTRATION

Question: Can I register without the original documents? Can I register with a graduation certificate?
Answer: It is not possible to register without the original documents. Candidates who have graduated but whose diploma is not yet ready can register with a Graduation Certificate, provided that they bring the diploma when it is ready (and provided that it does not exceed the time allowed by the Institute).

Question: I will not be able to attend the registration, can someone else bring my documents for me?
Answer: They must be hand-delivered to the Registrar's Office through the person who is given a notary proxy.

Question: Can I send my documents by mail?
Answer:Applications/registrations are not accepted by mail.

Question: I have been granted final registration, what should I do?
Answer: After you are entitled to final registration, you must submit the other documents requested from you in the announcement of the documents required for final registration to the Registrar's Office.

Question: Where and when can I get my OBS (Student Affairs Information System) password?
Answer: After the final registration, you will be notified by the Registrar's Office before the course registrations are made.

Question: Can you give information about course registration?
Answer: All graduate students will register for courses on the Student Affairs Information System between the dates specified in the Academic Calendar. Students who log in to the course registration screen will see the courses offered in the active semester. The system will warn students who have conflicts in the course schedule and will inform them on the registration screen which hours of the courses overlap. Students who choose their courses must get approval from their advisor to complete the registration process. The registration process will be finalized with the approval of the advisor and the student from the advisor system.

Question: Can you give information about adding and dropping courses?
Answer: Add and drop courses are made through the Student Affairs Information System between the dates specified in the academic calendar. The courses selected during the add-drop period are displayed in the course and semester operations application. The courses to be dropped are selected and sent to the registration basket. In order to complete the course add/drop process, the student must receive approval from his/her advisor.

Question: What should I do for course registration and renewal?
Answer: Course registration is done between the dates specified in the Academic Calendar. You must take your courses between these dates. To renew your registration, you need to pay the tuition fee, if any, before the course registrations.

Question: When do I have to register for the semester?
Answer: Students are obliged to renew their registration every semester on the interactive registration dates announced in the academic calendar. However, students enrolling in the graduate program for the first time can also register during the add-drop week specified in the academic calendar.

Question: What are the stages of semester registration?
Answer:The student is required to pay the contribution or tuition fee, if any, and fulfill other financial obligations of the previous semesters, the student must register for the semester and meet face-to-face with the student's academic advisor and receive the interactive semester registration approval from the advisor. Question: Can you give information about the registration freeze?
Answer: The student who wants to be considered on leave of absence applies to the relevant EABDB with the petition and documents stating the excuse until the end of the add-drop period of the relevant semester at the latest. EABDB forwards the leave request to the relevant board of directors together with the opinions of the student's academic / thesis advisor and EABDB. Except for unforeseen circumstances, applications to be made after the end of the add-drop period will not be processed.

Question: Can you give information about deregistration and re-registration?
Answer: Students can deregister by applying to the Registrar's Office if they wish. Students who deregister from the University or who are dismissed from the University due to disciplinary penalties must perform the deregistration procedures determined by the University and fulfill their financial obligations in order to receive their diplomas or documents in their files. Students who want to return to their education from the students who have deregistered, re-apply to the relevant program. This application is evaluated by the relevant EABDB within the framework of the application and admission requirements for graduate programs.

Question: I am unregistered and want to register for the semester. What should I do?
Answer: Students must apply to the relevant EABD chairmanship by stating and documenting the reason for their registration until the end of the add-drop period of that semester at the latest. Subsequent applications are not accepted.

Question: What is the duration of Master's Programs with and without thesis?
Answer:The duration of the Master's Program with Thesis is four semesters, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program for which the student is enrolled are given, regardless of whether he/she registers for each semester, except for the period spent in scientific preparation, and the program is completed in a maximum of six semesters.
The completion period of the Master's Program without Thesis is at least two semesters and at most three semesters, regardless of whether or not they register for each semester, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program they are enrolled in are given, except for the period spent in scientific preparation. Students who fail or fail to complete the program at the end of these periods are dismissed from the University.


QUESTIONS ABOUT ATTENDANCE, EXAMS AND COURSES

Question: Can you provide information about the evaluation of the application exams?
Answer: The weights are 50% ALES score, 25% undergraduate grade point average, 25% interview exam (conversion tables determined by YÖK will be valid in 4's and 100's system grade conversions.) According to the success grades determined according to the success grades, starting from the candidate with the highest score, candidates are placed in the education programs they apply for within the quota. (Provided that they get at least 70 points from the interview). In case of equality in the ranking, the candidate with the higher undergraduate grade point average is given priority.

Question: Is there a make-up exam if I do not attend the exam of any course?
Answer: Students who do not participate in the written exams, project submission, homework submission, oral presentation, etc. required by any course are given the opportunity to make up for those whose excuse is deemed valid by the relevant instructor.

Question: How is the Graduate School notified of any material errors in grades?
Answer: Any material error regarding the grades is made with the application of the instructor who teaches the course and with the approval of the EABDB within one week from the last date of the semester or summer school grades. In cases exceeding this period, the correction of material errors and corrections must be made upon the recommendation of the EABDB where the course is given and with the decision of the board of directors of the unit to which that EABDB is affiliated.

Question: Is it compulsory to attend the courses?
Answer: Students are obliged to attend classes, practices, exams and all academic studies required by the instructor.

Question: What is the "passing grade" in your institute? What is the average grade point average required to pass?
Answer: The passing grade is set as 70 (seventy) for Master's Programs.

Question: Does your school offer foreign language preparatory education for graduate students?
Answer: Yes. Candidates who are admitted to the program in English and who do not have or cannot document their foreign language proficiency continue to the English Preparatory Class for a maximum of two academic terms.

Question: I took a break from my master's/doctoral studies and now I want to start again, what should I do?
Answer: Students who want to return to their education before the end of the leave of absence must apply to the relevant EABDB with a petition before the start of interactive registrations. The application is evaluated by the student's academic / thesis advisor, EABDB and the relevant institute directorate and forwarded to the Registrar's Office. The student's status is evaluated within the framework of the relevant articles of Konya Food and Agriculture University Graduate Regulation. Students who meet the registration requirements can register for the semester on the dates announced in the academic calendar.

QUESTIONS ABOUT STUDENT DOCUMENTS

Question: Where can I get my Student Certificate, Transcript and ID card?
Answer: Student ID cards are printed and distributed to students by our Department with a "student ID card delivery document".

Question: I lost my student ID card, how can I get my student ID card reissued?
Answer:You need to apply to the Student Affairs Department with a petition.


OTHER QUESTIONS

Question: How are the military conscription deferment procedures done?
Answer: Military service deferment procedures are carried out according to the Military Service Law No. 1111. When you submit your military service status certificate and other documents in full within the period of your final registration, a transfer deferment certificate will be issued by the Student Affairs Department and sent to the Regional Directorate of Military Service.
