Dear Students, Aspiring Engineers, and Visitors,
Agriculture, which has remained one of the most fundamental and strategic sectors since the dawn of humanity, is currently undergoing a massive and profound technological transformation. Massive crises such as global climate change, dwindling water resources, soil degradation, and a rapidly growing world population are forcing us to move beyond traditional agricultural methods and develop science-based, innovative solutions. Ensuring food security in today’s and tomorrow’s world is only possible by integrating agriculture with advanced technology, biotechnology, and data science.
As the Department of Plant Production and Technologies at Konya Food and Agriculture University, we have built our educational philosophy precisely on this vision. By breaking away from traditional agricultural engineering paradigms, we offer a pioneering academic ecosystem that integrates core agricultural sciences with multidisciplinary and innovative fields such as molecular biotechnology, environmental science, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. Our goal is to train visionary agricultural engineers who can analyze and interpret data obtained from every stage of crop production using information technologies, unravel the complex interactions within agricultural systems, and develop smart models and solutions that directly benefit farmers in the field.
One of the most important cornerstones supporting our department’s global vision and academic standards is that we provide 100% English-language instruction. The key to directly keeping pace with the latest scientific developments in agricultural sciences, the international literature, global food policies, and global trade trends lies in having a thorough command of English, the global language. Thanks to the entirely English-language education they receive, our students graduate with the professional and linguistic competence to express themselves at the highest level—not only at the national level but also within international agricultural and seed industry giants, global R&D projects, and multinational organizations. This global communication capability paves the way for our graduates to take their place as global engineers in agricultural development activities around the world.
To this end, we introduce our students early on to modern technologies—such as sensors, drones, and precision agriculture tools—through laboratory work, research greenhouses, and field trials. We involve our students as active researchers in the pioneering national and international research projects led by our faculty members, thereby maximizing their passion for innovation and their critical thinking skills.
One of the most distinctive features that sets our department’s educational quality apart is undoubtedly our 7+1 Industry-Integrated Education model. To accelerate our students’ career progression, we have removed the traditional summer internship requirements for second- and third-year students from our curriculum, consolidating all field and practical experience under a single umbrella. After completing their first seven semesters of intensive academic study, our students spend their entire eighth semester (their final semester) working full-time at leading companies in the agricultural sector, corporate R&D centers, and production facilities. In this way, by acquiring the professional social skills, project management, and leadership competencies sought by the business world firsthand, they receive their diplomas on graduation day as fully prepared, experienced, and highly sought-after engineers.
