Our Students Involved in Research Activities at Michigan State University Returned to Our University

Within the framework of the bilateral agreement signed with Michigan State University (MSU), one of the leading universities in the field of agriculture and food, 3 students engaged in research activities at the MSU to cover transportation, accommodation and food expenses returned to our university by completing their studies. Within the scope of the program, which was held for the second time this year and with the participation of 4 students last year, 3rd year students Aybüke Büşra Özer, Şevval Buse Sarıman and Yaren Acır spent 3 weeks of intensive study in the laboratories, greenhouses and fields of the MSU Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources under the supervision of MSU academicians.

Aybüke Büşra Özer, 3rd year student of Bioengineering Department, took part in research studies on obtaining renewable fuels from algae at MSU, as well as doing individual studies like algae isolation, DNA extraction from algae, DNA analysis through picogreen and nanodrop methods and determination of algae protein CO2 absorption through gas chromatography. The student also had the opportunity to make an experiment in which she compared the results obtained with picogreen and nanodrop methods and observed the effect of different storage conditions and storage times on DNA. Şevval Buse Sarıman, 3rd year student of the Department of Economics, conducted research studies on behavioral economics. The student focused on social capital and analyzed the interaction of social capital with consumer behavior and thoughts by conducting surveys. Yaren Acır, 3rd year student of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, worked in the field of potato cultivation at MSU. In the process of working from laboratories to greenhouses and fields, our student had the opportunity to see and work in many different areas. Our student had the opportunity to learn different techniques in potato breeding, tissue culture banks and research fields.

After their studies, the students who presented their results to MSU academics and students were appreciated by MSU academicians. This year's program ended with the presentation of a certificate by advisors to our students after the presentations.
