About Us
KONYA UNIVERSITY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE (KGTÜ)
It was established in Konya under the leadership of the Scientific Research, Technology, Education, and Culture Foundation (BARTEK), which was founded in 2010 by Konya Şeker A.Ş., a leading force in Turkey’s agricultural sector.
By a decision of the BARTEK Foundation’s Board of Directors, in accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, the Foundation resolved to establish a university in Konya under the name “University of Food and Agriculture,” the adoption of the necessary administrative and financial measures for this project, and the initiation of the process; and immediately thereafter, domestic and international “exploratory meetings” were held with the participation of expert academics, bureaucrats, and senior executives from both Turkey and abroad. Based on the knowledge and expertise gathered during these meetings, the necessary application was submitted to the Council of Higher Education under the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and the “Regulation on Foundational Higher Education Institutions,” The establishment of Konya Food and Agriculture University was announced in the Law Amending the Higher Education Institutions Organization Act No. 6492, published in the Official Gazette No. 28681 on June 18, 2013.
Our university comprises 3 faculties, 1 vocational school, 1 institute, and 7 application and research centers. Our university admitted its first students during the 2016–2017 academic year. Until the 2023–2024 academic year, student admissions were conducted based on joint programs, and as of the 2023–2024 academic year, the university transitioned to a department-based education model to align with the Turkish higher education system and equip our students with more in-depth knowledge in their fields. As of the 2026–2027 academic year, the college began admitting students to its vocational programs.
Currently, within our Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, there are departments of Software Engineering (in Turkish), Computer Engineering (in English), and Interior Architecture (in Turkish); and within our Faculty of Social and Humanities Sciences, there are departments of Psychology (in Turkish), International Trade and Business Administration (in English), and Management Information Systems (in English). In the Faculty of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, education continues in the departments of Plant Production and Technologies (in English) and Molecular Biology and Genetics (in English). The Vocational School has launched programs in Digital Agricultural Technologies (in Turkish) and Food Quality Control and Analysis (in Turkish), and will be accepting students for the first time.
Konya Food and Agriculture University was established with the primary goal of filling the gap in Turkey’s expertise in food, agriculture, animal husbandry, and related fields; however, our research and educational opportunities are not limited to agriculture and food alone. We offer advanced undergraduate and graduate education opportunities in fields such as software and computer engineering, psychology, international trade, business administration, and architecture, and our faculty includes leading researchers and educators in these fields.
Built on the efforts of farmers who are members of the Konya Sugar Beet Growers’ Cooperative, the University is located in the heart of Konya city center, right in the middle of the complex of over forty agricultural industry factories operated by Konya Şeker A.Ş.—another cooperative affiliate—and Anadolu Birlik Holding. The businesses within the holding that operate in the food and agriculture sectors also serve as a natural environment where our students can reinforce what they have learned in the scientific field through hands-on experience.
