About Us

KONYA FOOD AND AGRICULTURE UNIVERSITY (KGTU)

It was established in Konya under the leadership of the Scientific Research, Technology, Education and Culture Foundation (BARTEK), which was established in 2010 by Konya Şeker A.Ş., the producing power of Turkey.

With the decision of the Board of Directors of BARTEK Foundation; in accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, it was adopted to establish a university in Konya under the name of Food and Agriculture University, to take the necessary administrative and financial measures for this project and to initiate the process, and immediately afterwards, domestic and international "search meetings" were held with the participation of academicians, bureaucrats and senior executives from Turkey and abroad who are experts on the subject. Within the framework of the information and knowledge formed in these meetings, the necessary application was made to the Higher Education Council within the scope of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and the "Regulation on Foundation Higher Education Institutions", and the establishment of Konya Food and Agriculture University was published with the Law No. 6492 on the Amendment of the Law on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions published in the Official Gazette dated June 18, 2013 and numbered 28681.

There are 3 Faculties, 1 Institute and 7 Application and Research Centers within our university. Our university received its first students in the 2016-2017 academic year. Until the 2023-2024 academic year, students were admitted on a joint program basis, and as of the 2023-2024 academic year, a department-based education model was adopted in order to follow an education policy compatible with the Turkish higher education system and to equip our students with more in-depth knowledge in their fields.

Currently, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture has Software Engineering (Turkish), Computer Engineering (English) and Interior Architecture (Turkish) departments, while the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities has Psychology (Turkish), International Trade and Business Administration (English) and Management Information Systems (English) departments. In the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, education continues with the departments of Crop Production and Technologies (English) and Molecular Biology and Genetics (English).

Konya Food and Agriculture University is a university whose main objectives are to fill the specialization gap in Turkey in food, agriculture, animal husbandry and the subjects that support these fields, but our research and education opportunities are not limited to agriculture and food. We offer advanced undergraduate and graduate education opportunities in areas such as software and computer science engineering, psychology, international trade, business management, architecture, and we have leading researchers and educators in these fields.

Rising on the shoulders of farmers who are members of the Konya Beet Planters Cooperative, the University is located in the city center of Konya, in the middle of the complex of over forty agro-industrial factories of Konya Seker A.S. and Anadolu Birlik Holding, which are subsidiaries of the same farmer cooperative. The enterprises within the holding, which fall within the scope of the field of food and agriculture, also fulfill the function of a natural environment where our students will reinforce what they have learned in the scientific field in practice.
