Message from Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Erol Turan, on July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day

On the night of July 15, 2016, our beloved nation wrote one of the most meaningful epics in our history by defending its independence, democracy, and national will at the cost of its own lives. The unity, solidarity, and love for the homeland displayed on that dark night demonstrated our nation’s unwavering resolve to the entire world.

On the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, I commemorate with mercy and gratitude all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of our homeland, the survival of our state, and the peace of our nation, and I honor our heroic veterans with deep appreciation. Our most important duty is to keep the spirit of national unity and solidarity alive at all times, to uphold the fundamental values of our Republic, and to continue working with the same determination to lead our country toward a stronger future.

With these feelings and thoughts, I believe that July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day will continue to live on in our nation’s memory as a symbol of unity, solidarity, and the defense of democracy; I greet all our citizens with respect and affection.
