Konya University of Food and Agriculture Will Coordinate the Horizon Europe TWIN-CLIMAGRI Project with a Budget of 1.5 Million Euros
Konya University of Food and Agriculture (KGTÜ) has achieved yet another significant milestone under Horizon Europe, one of the European Union’s most prestigious research and innovation programs. The TWIN-CLIMAGRI – Twinning for Excellence in Digital Agriculture Technologies Adapted to Climate Change and Water Scarcity project, prepared under the university’s coordination, has been awarded funding under the Horizon Europe WIDERA Twinning Program.
With a budget of approximately 1.5 million euros and a 36-month implementation period, the project will be carried out in collaboration with Konya Food and Agriculture University, Imperial College London (United Kingdom), the University of Oulu (Finland), The Origin Institute (Netherlands), and Sustainable Innovation Technology Services (Ireland).
Developing Climate-Resilient Digital Agriculture Solutions
The TWIN-CLIMAGRI project aims to develop innovative digital agriculture technologies to address global challenges such as climate change and water scarcity. As part of the project, solutions that will contribute to sustainable agricultural practices will be developed using IoT-based sensor systems, hydroclimatic modeling, and artificial intelligence-powered decision support systems (DSS).
The technologies to be developed will be tested under real-world field conditions in the Konya Enclosed Basin and subjected to scientific validation processes. The goal is for the project’s outcomes to yield not only academic benefits but also concrete, practical benefits.
International Capacity in Research Management Will Be Strengthened
TWIN-CLIMAGRI will not be limited to scientific research alone; it will also facilitate significant steps to strengthen Konya University of Food and Agriculture’s research management capacity and international visibility.
One of the project’s primary objectives is to establish a sustainable Research Management Office (RMO) within the university that complies with European Research Area (ERA) standards.
In addition, the project will include researcher exchange programs, scientific training sessions, visits by experts, joint doctoral advisement, and capacity-building activities focused on research management.
A Strong Contribution to International Scientific Collaboration from KGTU
Prof. Dr. Kasım Öztoprak will serve as the project coordinator. TWIN-CLIMAGRI is expected to further strengthen Konya Food and Agriculture University’s scientific expertise in the field of digital agriculture at the international level and enhance collaboration with research networks across Europe.
With this significant achievement, Konya Food and Agriculture University aims to increase its influence in the international research ecosystem while also making important contributions to the development of climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural technologies.
