The Agrivision Project Has Been Awarded Funding Under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A Research Project Support Program for University Students

Led by Dilanur AYGÜN, Zeynep Tuba BAŞAR, and Berranur ÖZYALVAÇ, students in our university’s Department of Computer Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Reza Zare HASSANPOUR, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Student Research Projects Support Program.
As part of the AgriVision project, the goal is to develop a deep learning-based smart decision support system capable of processing real-time images over the field to combat the weed problem encountered in sugar beet fields. This innovative approach processes real-time images from a vehicle-mounted camera system using an embedded artificial intelligence architecture to identify weed species within milliseconds and maps them by combining the obtained data with real-time GPS data.
As part of the project’s training phase, the growth processes of various weed species and sugar beets under different conditions are being experimentally observed. Based on the results obtained from these experiments and observations, farmers will be provided with environmentally friendly intervention plans that involve the targeted and precise application of chemicals. In this regard, the project ultimately aims to reduce the use of chemicals in agricultural production.
