An Awareness Conference on Combating Addiction Held at Our University

On October 21, a conference titled “Addiction and Strategies for Combating Addiction” was held at our university. Mikail Çelik, Clinical Psychologist at the Konya Alcohol and Substance Treatment Center (AMATEM), participated as the guest speaker. The event provided comprehensive information on the physical, psychological, and social effects of substance use, early signs of addiction, the development of the addiction cycle, and effective strategies used in combating addiction. In addition, the multidimensional negative impacts of substance addiction on individuals, families, and society were discussed in detail. The importance of early intervention, awareness efforts, and professional support mechanisms in addiction prevention and treatment was emphasized.
The event was organized within the scope of the Social Responsibility course conducted by Lecturer Bengisu Büyükmumcu, and first-year Psychology students Zeynep Ezel Babacan, Gizem Akbulut, İremsu Elmas, Ceyda Selinay Köşger, and Öznur Aydoğdu played an active role in coordinating the process. At the end of the program, participants shared their thoughts and questions aimed at increasing societal awareness in the fight against addiction. A certificate of appreciation was presented to Clinical Psychologist Mikail Çelik by Prof. Dr. Ramazan Arı, Head of the Psychology Department.
